Call To A Lesser Work : Rhyming The Ancient Melon Ball -stephanie pope

kokopelliMelons mellow
sweeter in bland paper sacks and
never on fruit stand racks and
O say can you see by the dawn
stoned singer in a rock band and...

Ooo Baby! How he really really can-can
mellow me a certain rock tune, then
my mellow melon fellow with a
mouth-pumpin' song canon
short on taste and rather long rockin'
keeps a rockin' me the tune-a-rollin'
more'n better than a
melon fallow on the floor

Hey ain't it better than a
melon if it's slippin' from the hip of an
aching maiden in the grip of an
incidental transcendental nature escapade O

She jes no wanna be his beast of burden
a sellin' melon smellin' under ripen
See, she gotta certain nother notion
that really got in her a groovin' motion
one he might a bin a hidin' in
cuz he makin' her in deep devotion
cuz all he wantin' is a quick emotion
cuz all he thinkin' is a one nighter
makin' some'n like a prize fighter
on a mule like a fool goin' nowhere fast
And so, you see
she gonna be
no beast of burden
so I be rollin' on this floor laughin'...

cuz she ain't gettin melon
and you and me you see
ain't gettin' melon
and now the He of He's
ain't gettin' melon...
That makes this rollin' on the floor, Darlin'
the sweetest thang of all!

So go ahead, Baby
Have a melon...ball!
